Christmas in…….APRIL?????

Looking at my blog posts, I noticed I never posted my completed layouts using the Paperie December Club kit. I had a few sneak peeks on posts here and here and then the Paperie posted the layouts on their blog here, but I somehow forgot to do my own posting. December 2012 was my very first time as a Paperie design team member and here is what I created:

So Happy Christmas in April!!!!

Super Scrapper!

I was quite suprised when I saw yesterdays SKETCHBOOK 365 blog post. I was so happy to have been selected as one of the 5 Super Scrappers for the March Sketch Challenge for my “Mr. Cool” layout. I was certainly not expecting it!

Sketchbook 365 is a sketch challenge blog presented by Scrap 365 mag. Every month a sketch is posted on the blog and a prize is offered to one lucky scrapper. There are lots of lovely layouts posted every month with some great inspiration by the design team members and other scrapbookers.

If you havn’t already done so, check out the blog for April’s Sketch Challenge based on a layout designed by Sian Fair:

Also check out todays blog post on The Paperie blog. They re-bloged my post Longing for Summer featuring my  “Summer” layout using the June 2012 kit. And here is another layout I made using the same kit:

I used an awesome mask by Americana Decoart called Kaleidoscope and white paint to create this LO. I also added some mist, washi tape and of course doodling!

Speaking of kits…here is a peek of this months Paperie Club Kit to be released next week! Lots of goodies from Amy Tangerine, Pink Paislee, MME, Technique Tuesday, Fancy Pants and American Crafts:

Eclectic Love- Layout #4-A little Bit of Magic

Here is the final LO  I completed for the release of the February Paperie Club Kit, “Eclectic Love”. BUT that’s not all!!!!! You will see more projects I make from this kit in future posts, including a St. Paddy’s Day LO I’m working on!!!

lori Smith-a little bit of magic

This was THE FASTEST LAYOUT I HAVE EVER DONE!!!!!! I am a pretty slow scrapbooker, but this LO took me about 30 mins to do (40 mins if you count cutting the SC journaling card).

First I got my white CS and added a few flicks of Ranger Black Marble Dylusions. I then started the bottom of the LO first….I know- crazy!!! I added the strip of Studio Calico  Darling Dear “Garbo” paper at the bottom. I added washi tape and the star strip from October Afternoon Midway “Duckpond”. I colored the SC vellum heart with Ranger Tim Holtz Distress Markers in Barn Red and added it to the corner with the star flair and the SC ampersand vellum die cut sticker:

Then I got the circles cut from the October Afternoon Midway “Ring Toss” paper, that was left over from making the last LO. I popped every second one up using foam dots. Then I got out my black PITT pen and added some faux stitching around them:

So, yeah….I did the top and bottom first. Not your typical way to do a LO, but hey it worked out. I cut a piece of Bo Bunny teal CS and added it to my LO. Added a few strips of washi and more paper strips from the OA “Duckpond”. I adhered my pics and began to embelish the LO. I loved the orange pinking cirle on the SC journaling card, but i didnt want to add another square element, so I did what any crazyType A scrapper would have done- I fussy cut the darn thing out! A little secret- I only cut enough to fit….the remainder is hidden under the pic…maybe it was laziness….whatever!!! Then I stamped it with a Kelly Purkey (she will be visiting here in less than 3 weeks!!!!!)  “A Little Bit of Magic” stamp using black STAZ ON. I added faux stitching to the pinking circle and adhered some velum die cuts and the SC flair and it was done!!!

So that’s the story of the fastest LO I have ever done. Horray!!!!

Eclectic Love

Happy Valentines Day! (belated….hey lets keep the love going!) This week I posted a few sneaks of the Paperie February Club Kit- Eclectic Love!  It was Rae-Lynn’s & my turn this month to privide you with some scrappy inspiration!!! Check us out at The Paperie blog in this post (Rae-Lynn’s Reveal) & this post (my reveal).

So now I’m going to show you how I created LO #1:

Layout #1: “Love”

paperie club kit feb 2013 layout 1

Don’t you just LOVE that Amy Tan paper called “Surrounded” from the Ready Set Go line?!!! was inspired by an idea from Amy to cut out the letters and back it with paper . Check out the layout she created.

Now I must confess I save my packaging from some of my embelishments. And this packaging from the Studio Calico Vellum diecut stickers was perfect!

To start the layout, I placed my pic, washi & layered patterened paper (pp) onto the background “Surrounded” pp. I DID NOT USE ADHESIVE YET. I then picked one of the  love locations on the paper I wanted to cut.

II used my craft knife & cutting mat to cut the word “Love” out of the paper. The best way to cut with a cutting knife is to move your paper around the turns, not the knife.

love cut 1

I removed the pp, washi & pic. I then used various mists from Tattered Angels, Ranger, Studio Calico & October Afternoon to create ink splatters on the top left corner and the bottom. I love removing the sprayer from the misting bottles and flicking the tubing to create tiny splatters. I then adhered my pp (Studio Calico & Basic Grey), pic and washi (Ranger, Freckled Fawn) to the LO. I love the wide washi!!! I also love the ripped washi look. I added some on the top and bottom of the background paper. I rolled the edges of the wide washi to give it a distressed look.

I fired up my Silhouette Cameo & cut the frame from Kraft CS, to fit my smaller picture. Love that Front Row Polaroid cut file from Studio Calico. I added the pic behind the frame and then poped it up with foam dots. I cut out the “you & me so happy” speech balloon from the October Afternoon Midway word bubbles washi tape that was included in the kit. I adhered it to the corner of the polariod frame.

I took the Studio Calico Darling Dear Vellum die cut stickers (included in the kit) and my Ranger Tim Holtz Distress markers. I choose a heart and colored it with the Broken China marker. I then added it to the LO.

I used my extra fine black PITT pen to write the words “today”, “tomorrow” and “always” on Kraft paper, cut it out in a rectangle shape and adhered it as shown on the LO.

I got the stamp “heart you” from the Technique Tuesday Ali Edwards  “Bring On the Love” stamp set, inked it with Ranger black Archival Ink and stamped it on the LO. .

I punched out hearts from red, teal and pink Bazill cardstock using the Martha Stewart Heart Confetti Punch  and the Fiskars Heart Punch. I then adhered them on the LO with pop dots as shown. I then added some My Minds Eye Enamel Dots that came with the kit as shown.

I then got my SMOOCH out and painted the heart of the Ali Edwards stamp. Love the shimmer!

Now I will show you what I done with my title. I flipped over the layout and put adhesive foam around the word love (you may have to cut the foam to fit).  I then (carefully) layered washi tape on red CS and placed it behind the word LOVE:

IMAG1470 IMAG1471

I then traced around the letters using my black Faber-Castell PITT pen. Love these artist pens!!

And so the doodling frenzy begins! I doodled around the outter edges of the layout, the CS hearts, the polariod frame and the handwritten words. Now don’t go trying to be all neat and perfect about it, and stressing yourself out. Embrace imperfection!

and here is a close up! Look at the dimension in the title by adding pop dots to the back! In addition, the doodling certainly adds a creative touch to help your layout POP!!!

love pop close up

Some pics above I took as I was creating the LO. Others I took after the fact because I was in a scrappy state of creativity and I just couldnt stop/forgot to take a pic!!

In my next post, I will show you how I did Layout #2 “Best Friends”.

Time for a Challenge

I have been trying to keep up with the blogging. It’s a new thing for me, so still trying to get used to it…plus I suck at time management…ironic considering the name of my blog! LOL

Great news …my friend Karen started a blog too. (You should check her out). We decided we were going to do some challenges to keep us motivated and have fun! So today I’m sharing one of those challenges with you. If you want to play along- feel free. I would love to see all your beautiful art! Make a comment in the comment section and link it to your gallery or blog.

BUT FIRST I have to tell you about this awesome class I’m taking over at Big Picture Classes called “kit-tastic” taught by the amazing May Flaum! I found out about this class through Ashli Oliver aka soapHOUSEmama…you should check out her blog-her work is absolutely wonderful and inspirational! She rocks the house!

My first kit I put together using the techniques in week one….I used Basic Grey Paper Clippings, Studio Calico wood veneer hearts, cameras & potty people, BG letter stickers, October Afternoon alphas & AC thickers, Christy Thomlinson’s  vintage doily mask (i luv it), black  Le Pen, Ali Edwards stamps,TIM Holtz/Ranger distress ink and re-inkers/misters, Ranger black archival ink, washi tape and charcoal (yeah I’ll explain this in a later blog post Sara! ) I made sure to use reds in my papers, letters and embelishments for contrast to my black and white photos…

…..and this is the kit I put together…

So to kill 2 birds with one stone…actually 3…..ill explain later….

Karen & I decided to do a sketch challenge– nothing big just a motivator! And here is the 2 page layout sketch from BG….

So using my kit and my sketch I started my layout….and then I decided to tie in another challenge from my LSS, the Paperie. They have MOJO MONDAY challenges posted on the blog and my friend Krista posted this challenge—quotes and song lyrics for a title. So I looked at my pictures and the lightbulb went on like a spotlight on a stage!!!!”Crazy Little Thing Called Love” by Queen popped into my head!!!

And so the layout began……

Wedding Time

Today I attended The Devotion Wedding Show and had the opportunity to showcase some of my wedding layouts at The Paperie wedding booth.

This beautiful booth was created by the talented Meghan, @ The Paperie. She made all these beautiful custom wedding invitations herself as well as the matching favor boxes using the AccuCut, menus, and added some fabulous decor to match.

And look at this awesome vintage suitcase wedding card holder Megan altered. It was certainly the talk of the day as I was walking around the show overhearing the brides chatting!!!

Here is the main layout I made using Bo Bunny Vintage Dot Island Mist paper and  The Crafters Workshop 12 x 12 Damask Stensil. I laid the stensil over the paper, taped it down, and then used my palette knife to spread moulding paste into the stensil. I then added some Ranger distress ink and snowcap paint,Freckled fawn and Ranger washi tape,Studio Calico wood veneer potty people & hearts and tissue trim, Martha Stewart doilies, Hero Arts pearls and script stamp,Doodle Bug and Authentique sticker letters. The heart with “love” written on it is a crackled porcelian technique i will be demonstrating @ the Paperie Fall Scrapbook Retreat in November. So stay tuned!!!!

I had quite the fun & busy day so its off to bed i go!!!! nite nite!!
