Say CHOCOLATE!!!!

I love Chocolate! One of my favourite chocolate haven’s is the Newfoundland Chocolate Company. The chocolate is AMAZING!!! In December of 2012 myself and 11 friends gave ourselves an early Christmas present- an evening making chocolates at the NL Chocolate Company! It was a great experience! We learned about the different types of chocolate and the fine art of chocolate making. We also got to make chocolates and had a few laughs along the way!

The June Paperie Club Kit had lots of neutral browns. I decided it would be great to make a layout based on our Chocolate Adventure. Here is the layout I created for the release of the June kit:

lori smith--say chocolate--june paperie kit 2013

This is probally one of the most MIXED MEDIA layouts I have created to date. So here is how I created this layout. WARNING: lots of pics from here on!!!

I started with the awesome Prima paper included in the kit and added Ranger washi tape in various places. I lifted up and rolled some of the edges of washi for texture. I also added some gesso over the paper:

prima with washi

I then got my Ranger Tim Holtz distress inks and Ink Blending Tool and added some color. I then got my TCW & Prima stencils (The Mini Punchinella & Tiny circles by Julie Fei-Fan Balzer and the checked stencil by Anna Dabrowska, aka Finnabair, are some of my absolute favs).

distress ink ink stencil dots pretty pretty2

I  added some random areas of gesso:

I then added some molding paste for texture:

I gathered my Stencils and Ranger Perfect Pearls mists:

Love that shine!!! I then saw this gorgeous creation by my favourite Mixed Media Artist Anna Dabrowska aka Finnabair and became inspired. I was having a mental debate of keeping the paper like it was or cutting it up…so i took the chance (gasp!) and ended up doing this:

cut!! pics

I added some gesso and then Ranger brown Expresso paint around the edges and figured out how I was going to arrange my pics.I grabbed the expresso paint and created dripping chocolate–WELL THAT WAS AN EPIC FAIL!!! The paint was a bit too thick and the cut up paper prevented my drips from dripping properly.OH WELL…it is what it is…moving on…I cut and inked strips of paper and layered it under my pics:

brown paint choco drips-epic fail color paper oh well

I then added some paint flicks and then added a sticker from the Teresa Collins sticker sheet included in the kit. I crossed out “cheese” with my PITT pen and added the chipboard thickers. I really like how the title turned out.

I then added more pics, embelishments and papers. Here are some close ups of the layout:

And that’s how I created the “SAY CHOCOLATE” layout!!! Now I’m in the mood to eat chocolate!

Without Music Life Would B Flat——a “coarse” in Texture Gel 101

I found this quote on Pinterest and I thought it would make an awesome layout of my hubby playing the guitar. I was in the middle of making design team layouts for my LSS, The Paperie, and I made this layout for the June kit:

lori smith--without music life would be flat--june paperie kit 2013

I took my TCW 12×12 Brick stencil and taped it down onto my navy blue cardstock and work surface. I mixed Liquitex coarse texture gel and a bit of white paint on my Ranger Craft Mat. Then I taped scrap paper on the stencil  and exposed only the area that I wanted to add the texture gel.I added the mixture with my pallate knife and this is what I got:

brick stencil & coarse texture gel

I wanted my bricks a little more white so I painted them with my paintbrush and Ranger Picket Fence paint:

I added some white paint splatters with my paintbrush and got this:

Then I added my photos and layering and some doodling with my Faber Castell PITT pen and my Signo White pen:IMG_9043

I fired up my Silhouette Cameo and started cutting. I arranged my title using my die-cut letters and some sticker letters included in the kit. I added some embelishments, washi tape and sticky notes and here it is:

Have a great day!

Love You- a layout and a card

My hubby and I have been through so much since we have been together. He is not perfect and neither am I. We have had our share of ups and downs, happiness and heart ache, good times and bad, (lots of) sickness and health, but have managed to stick together through it all!  Love you Babe! Happy Anniversary!

I designed this layout for the June Paperie Club kit. The pic that was taken on our wedding day:

I created the flair using a sticker from the Teresa Collins “He said, She Said” sticker sheet included in the kit, and Epiphany Epoxy bubble caps.

Love making my own flair!

And here is the Anniversary card I made for my hubby. I made a 6×6 card using blank white CS and painted it with Luminarte Twinkling H2O’s. I mixed Luminarte Red Carmen Silks acrylic glaze and Liquitex Coarse Texture Gel. I added the mixture over my awesome TCW Ronda Palazzari Confetti Stencil. I stamped TT Ali Edwards stamp to the card with black Staz-On and doodled around the edge with my black XS Faber Castell PITT pen. I love how it turned out and my hubby liked it too!!!

If there ever comes a day….

It’s Fathers Day. Happy Fathers Day to all the Dad’s, soon to be dads, and all the men who are like dads to special kids, and to those who would make excellent dads in the future.

This month it was Rae Lynn’s and my turn to bring you some inspiration using the June kit “Mister Man” from our local scrapbook store, The Paperie. You can check it out here, here and here. The kit was indeed masculine containing lots of brown neutral tones:

june paperie club kit 1

While working on the kit in May, I knew one layout I would be doing would be a tribute to my late grandfather. I used a quote from Winnie the Pooh for my title and decided to do a Vintage style layout. I found some of my favourite old pics of Poppy, Nanny and me when I was a little girl. I scanned them and printed them on my printer in a sephia tone. I was filling up with tears the whole time I was creating this layout and had my box of Kleenex on the table. Here is the layout I created:

and some close ups:

I toned down the paper in some areas using white acrylic gesso, I then used used Studio Calico mist in colors dark ands warm calico. I added some doilys, washi tape and stickers in the kit and other washi tape from Ranger, Autum leaves Flourish stamps, Maya Road wood buttons & Ranger Tim Holtz Adornments. I  created my title using the AC thickers in the kit as well as Ranger black sticker letters. I added Studio Calico wood veneers, Hero Arts Lace and Pearls, Evalicious badge, Tim Holtz Film strip, TCW clocks stencil & the 7 Gypsies clock stamp.

The title “If there ever comes a day when we can’t be together, keep me in your heart, I’ll stay there forever” was perfect for this layout.  I added my journaling with my favourite pen-the XS black PITT pen by Faber Castell. It says “You’ll always be in my heart. I miss you Poppy”

Time to Catch Up

This is my first blog post in over a month. I’ve been working on a few projects, but have been unable to share them until now as they have been for layout tags, challenges and design team projects etc. Plus life has been a bit of a roller coaster for us lately. (We love being ON roller coasters-but only the ones in amusement parks!!!) Since my back/shoulder/arm/neck injury it takes me a lot longer to do the things I enjoy, including scrapbooking (and blogging about it). However, I do a few mins here and there, and eventually end up getting something done….in time!

Throughout June I will be posting some of the creations I have been working on the last few months (if my back/neck/shoulder/arm cooperates). I have been told by a few of my followers that you love my step-by-step photo tutorials when I create some of my layouts. You will be happy to know that I will be doing that at least once a month (maybe more!)

Remember I gave you a peek of this:

atlantis closeup

Well here is the full layout-Journey to Atlantis. In 2009 we went on our first trip together to the Bahamas. We left our resort and  got on a Water Taxi to the beautiful Island Resort of Atlantis:

The paper,MME enamel dots, velum heart and letter stickers were leftovers from the february Paperie Kit. (See my design team layouts from that kit here, here, here and here). I used lots of colorful washi tape and mist. That awesome arrow stamp (from MME) in the corner was from a previous kit.

Heres a close up of the letters:

atlantis letters close up 2 atlantis-letters close up

I used graphite Viva Ferro Metal Effect Color to add some texture and added dots with my white uniball signo pen. All I did was take the letters, stick them to my craft mat and added the Metal effect with a brush and allowed to dry.

atlantis-ink and metal effect

I used StazOn Jet Black ink for stamping on the acetate packaging paper (yes, I recycle most of my packaging if I can!!)

atlantis- recycle that packaging

Next I gathered some paint- greens and brown (Jeni Bowlin Brown Sugar and Stick Candy, and Mallard Green Silks)I added some pain to my craft mat. Then I mixed the greens slightly in the center to have 3 tones.

Then I began coloring my palm tree with my paint brush I added brown to the tips and areas to make it more realistic:

And this was the final result:

Then, I added a few embelishments and outlined my letters & white CS with my XS Black PITT pen.

I wish I was under a palm tree right now! … *sigh*

Sketchbook 365 April Sketch

Well its been a rough week in our household. We’ve all been very sick with colds, stomach bugs and headaches all at once! As a result I never got to link up my layout I created using Aprils sketch to the Sketchbook365 blog. However here is my take on this months sketch:

pyramid of kukulcan-mexico-lori s

here is the sketch I used:

This sketch is based on a layout by Sian Fair

This sketch is based on a layout by Sian Fair

I used American Crafts Dear Lizzie Lucky Charm papers, Amy Tan vellum letters, Studio Calico wood veneers, various washi tape, MME enamel dots, Evalicious flair,MM letter stickers, Ranger pumice stone distress ink, TCW mini Kaliedoscope stencil, gesso,Tattered Angels Chalkboard Glimmer mist (admiral) and my Sakura 0.2 micron black pen and my Faber-Castell XS black pen.

Triangles seem to be all the rage right now! The Dear Lizzie Lucky Charm papers coupled with the SC wood veneers and the stencil all fit together! And to top it all off, I used my pics of the Pyramid of Kukulcan (El Castillo) when i visited the archeological Site, Chichzen Itza in Mexico. I really like how it turned out!

Thanks for looking! Have a great day!

Crop Circles April Blog Hop

Welcome to the final stop on the CROP CIRCLES APRIL BLOG HOP! If you just came from Darlene Head Whalley’s blog, you are right on track. If you didn’t, then see the list at the end of this post and click on the members names to participate in the entire hop!

Our Challenge this month was fairly simple. Create a Layout or project that has a Spring theme. Its April 10th and we still have some midly cold temperatures and the snow still wants to hang around a bit longer. However its starting to get a little warmer and hopefully Spring weather will soon appear more often over the next month.

When I think of spring I think of spring vacation and getting away from the snow! Usually in the spring we would go on a little vacation, however this spring we’ll be staying home and counting down the days watching the snow dissappear. In 2007 we went to Montreal for 4 days in the Spring. We left NL in snow and arrived to Montreal where the grass was green, the flowers were blooming and blossoms were on the trees. Here is a layout I created of a pic that my hubby took of me:

spring in montreal=lori smith

There is a story behind this LO: I started it last year….hated it….put it in a “to re-do” pile and that was that….so I took out the layout…ripped it apart…added mist, washi tape, embelishments, and added some doodling. Now I’m satisfied with it! I used a fiscars lace border punch and pink cardstock to create the “lace” around the LO. The key to doing it is to make it slightly damp and adhere it with stick 2 way tape.I then added ink to it to give it an aged look. I used Basic Grey Olivia papers and chipboard letters, Fiskars Cloud punches, heart punches, October Afternoon Mist, Ranger Tim Holtz Flourish mask, Evalicious Flair, and various washi tape.

Now its your turn to participate by visiting the members blogs in the hop and leaving a comment on their beautiful Spring Projects. For every comment you leave along the way on each blog hop members blog, your name will be entered to win a prize. You’ll also have chances to win some blog candy along the way from some individual bloggers. I have a prize I will be awarding from all comments made on this blog post. You have until end of day April 12th  to play along with us. Winners will be announced shortly after that.Good luck!!!

Here is the full list of participants in case you got lost along the way or want to participate in the entire hop!
